Tools at the Forefront of Dental Medicine
A dentist’s experience, skill, and compassion for patients are all essential elements of effective dental care — but technology is also important. In recent decades, research has given rise to a number of remarkable instruments that aid in preventing, diagnosing, explaining, and improving patients’ oral health. Dr. Aveni has invested in some such instruments with the goal of enhancing the care he provides in our dental office. On this page, you can gain a basic understanding of some of the remarkable technological tools we use.
Intraoral Camera
An intraoral camera is a small, wand-shaped camera that easily fits inside a patient’s mouth. It captures clear images of the patient’s teeth, gums, and other oral structures. Those images are displayed in real-time on a nearby monitor. Not only does an intraoral camera provide us with an easy way to examine hard-to-reach areas of your mouth, but it also serves as a visual aid when we are helping you to gain deeper insight into your oral health.
Digital X-Rays
We regularly use X-rays to help us identify oral health issues that are invisible to the naked eye, such as infections and decay beneath the gum line, as well as developmental issues in children. The imaging process with digital X-rays is fast and comfortable, and the results are immediately accessible — no need to wait for film to develop! The digital X-ray machine exposes patients to much less radiation than its old-fashioned counterparts, making this diagnostic tool safe for practically any patient.
